Police and firefighters responded to a call about a possible explosive device at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on Saturday.

According to an incident report, a woman told officers that she saw suspicious items hidden behind a concrete pedestal near the front door of the church about 10 a.m.

The woman described the items as a long plastic tube with a white cap that was either gray or filled with smoke, and a small black box next to it, the report states. At first, the woman said she picked up the items because she thought they were trash, but became suspicious and called the public safety department.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office bomb squad responded and collected the items with a robot, the report states. The items were moved to a safe location and destroyed, and it is not believed that they were dangerous, according to the report.
